Summary:

A position is available to conduct studies focusing on the gut-brain axis and the gut microbiome in alcohol use disorder in mice and humans. This collaborative effort involves the UConn Alcohol Research Center, the Laboratory of Microbiome Science in Department of Medicine, and Jackson Laboratory. The research will integrate multi-OMICS, experimental and clinical approaches.

The position is supported by the NRSA-funded T32 Institutional Research Training Program at UConn Health. It offers the NRSA stipend, health insurance, and funds for conferences and mini-courses. The fellow will have the opportunity to be trained on next generation sequencing technology, bioinformatics, microbiome, animal behavior biology and clinical trials. He/she will also attend seminars in alcohol research offered by the Program.

Job Requirements

Basic requirements (the candidate must meet basic requirement to apply):

US citizen or permanent resident
PhD in Psychology, Microbiology or Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or related disciplines
Interest in an alcohol research career

Other requirements:

Knowledge and familiarity of approaches in either microbiome/microbiology or alcohol research
Have a good publication record
Ability to design experiments and effectively perform experiments and troubleshooting
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively interact with researchers from a diverse research background
